BREAST CANCER FUNDRAISING

Paparoa Lions Club held their inaugural Bling A Bra Breast Cancer fundraising event in October 2025

They invited the community to decorate and enter a Bra to be hung on display boards in an exhibition at the Paparoa Hall which was then open to the public to view from Friday until Sunday.

Entered Bras were decorated with a wide range of items including feathers, beads, buttons, Steam Punk items, fabric and shells. The public who came to view were invited to vote for their favourite Bra by putting money in the corresponding jar, the bras that raised the most money in votes were the winners.

There were 46 bras entered, 7 in the Youth category and 39 in the Adult category. The winning entries were Youth – Wedding Faces 1st, Peacock 2nd and Adults – Mosaic 1st and Butterfly 2nd.

This weekend of fundraising was then finished off with a High Tea at the Hall. All 84 tickets were sold and the Hall was dressed up in a sea of pink tablecloths, pink chair bows, fine China, balloons and banners. Most of the attendees got into the spirit of the event and dressed up in their finest pink to enjoy an afternoon of fine food, lots of chatter, lovely background music and great raffles and door prizes to be won. Over all events a grand total of just over $4,300 was raised for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ.
